Not Enough Memories

She married my uncle when I was around eleven, but the first time I met her I knew there was something special about her, she made my uncle light up in a way no one else could, she treated me with love and compassion, for an eleven year old girl, being showed you mattered, matters, not that my Mom and Grandmother didn’t do that, because they most certainly did, and I was blessed to have Aretha, a cousin only a few months older than I that reminded me of what I was capable of, and Frankie who would mess anyone up if he caught them bullying me Lol. But Aunt Diane had and has a quiet way about her, a way that shouts of love and compassion. I want to be there, to give her a hug, to let her lean on me, but I can’t, not with Covid, so phone calls, text messages, and chat sessions are the new normal, and all I can think about is how she opened her heart and her door to those she loves, and so many of us can’t be there for her. I’m not giving up on her, she’s a fighter, but as the reality of the situation sinks in, I just want to hug her and tell her how much she means to me.

All you can do is do the best you can. Hopefully, you'll find a way to pay her a face-to-face visit.
