How to mend a bum leg. You have it rebroken!

Many years ago my son broke his leg. It was a compound fracture and required surgery. Sadly, it didn’t heal properly.
His leg began to slowly bow and thus causing him considerable pain in his knee, leg, and hip.
After much consideration he decided to seek a surgeon who could fix his leg. The surgeon he found said she could fix it, but the leg would need to be rebroken.
He had the surgery on the 23rd. Was given strong pain medication in the hospital. After 2 days he was discharged to home. With instructions on how to adjust the brace gradually so his leg would turn back in place.
He said he is trying to follow doctor’s orders and move about as much as possible using the walker for support. He is a stubborn man and will push himself and to try more. I worry he will cause more injury.
Hoping he recovers quickly.

Unfortunately he thinks that he’s going to be able to climb stairs. He did he did it on 1 foot I don’t know how the heck you get it but he did it.

He will need to get the knee replaced sometime down the road. Of course because of his age, that will be a long time in the future. He said he won't get the knee replaced.

@crazyhorseladycx I hadn't seen him in a while before the surgery and didn't realize how crooked his leg had become. A few weeks before the surgery he came to visit and it was bowed quite a bit.

Yes, I said the same. Gave me shivers to think about it. He has to move about to keep himself limber. He was very active prior to the surgery so he has good upper body strength.

I hope it does. He was in a lot of pain before the surgery. I told him that if he didn't get the surgery he would eventually be unable to walk.

Yes it’s kind of a crappy situation for somebody his age to be in. He has a two-year-old son who requires his constant attention as well.

Oh, that looks painful. How does he sleep with that contraption?

I doubt he sleeps that well. He didn't sleep well before the surgery either.

I hope he recovers soon as well! It makes me cringe to think they had to re-break the bone. My cousin had to have surgery after his hips began to give him problems. Apparently he had a birth defect that no one knew about until recently. I can't remember what they did, but I know it put him out of commission for a bit.

He’s going to be down for quite a while. He’s got himself convinced six weeks but I know it’s gonna be longer than that.

Yes, because it didn't heal properly. It freaked me out a little bit knowing they had to rebreak the leg.

That's not gonna be fun but in the end it should definitely be worth the pain and trouble.

. Well if he does more damage its his own fault.

Hope your son can recover quickly. It's a struggle not to be able to move a lot.
