"There is perhaps nothing we modern people need more than to be genuinely shaken up. "

A homily I heard today spoke of Alfred Delp, a German Jesuit who assisted in the underground escape of Jews to Switzerland. But he was arrested as a suspect in the failed assassination attempt of the Nazi dictator, of which he was not a member of. In prison, he wrote letters and essays. In prison, too, he received his final vows of priesthood, and he wrote, "“It was too much, what a fulfillment, I prayed for it so much, I gave my life away. My chains are now without any meaning, because God found me worthy of the 'Vincula amoris' (chains of love)”. He was hanged shortly thereafter. He left behind a beautiful piece about Advent that tells why we must be shaken. Please read because this is very relevant to us today.

My pleasure sharing.
A scholarly take on Advent, isn't it? Hope you enjoyed the writing and the theme. I was shaken.

It is the reign of dictators. Even the incumbent of the free world tried to become one.
The result - widespread hunger and homelessness.

@Shiva49 That is why we never waver in countering these egregious creatures with the truth. Evil has no power over the good. We must keep fighting as if this is the final battle.

@eileenleyva Yes, democracy or not, the common folks are left to hope against hope.
The one who promises much and gets elected soon proves worse than the one they despised and found fault with.
"Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely" proves right all the time.
