Fall Songs Bonus: Fallin

Well, since I just had to use a country song today, I figured I’d better balance it out. No, it’s not the only country song, but the other two are “Nashville Sound” stuff that’s not that offensive to the ears. So, to balance it out, here’s a bonus song that I promised in an earlier discussion. BONUS: Fallin’ - Robert Klein I mentioned in a comment that Klein can sing. No, he’s no Roy Orbison or Don Williams, but he has a pretty good voice for a guy who’s best-known as a standup comedian. Actually, Klein’s first TV appearance, believe it or not, was on the Ted Mack Amateur Hour (the American Idol of the 50s) in a vocal group when he was a teenager! Still, you have to wonder why they picked him as the male lead in a Neil Simon play, They’re Playing Our Song. Playing opposite him in the play was Lucille Ball’s daughter, Lucie Arnez, making her Broadway debut. Well, it worked. Based on the romance of Marvin Hamlisch and Carole Bayer Sagar (who wrote the music for the play), They’re Playing Our Song was a success, clocking over 1,100 performances and getting four Tony nominations. “Fallin’” is the opening song, sung by Klein to establish his character and the budding romance. Maybe this will soften the blow of the Grandpa Jones music. Then again.... Fallin’ Written by Carole Bayer Sagar and Marvin Hamlisch Recorded by Robert Klein From They’re Playing Our Song (Broadway soundtrack), 1979 I’m afraid to fly:

I went to opening night of They're Playing Our Song--Lucie was a delight not so Klein.

Generally I like him much better as a comedian than an actor.
