Yesterday, I watched some parishioners sprousing St. Ignatius Parish Church with Christmas decors. For non-Filipino Catholics, this might seem too early to envigorate the chapel with a manger, involving the baby Jesus, the three kings carrying their gifts, angels, shepherds and cows.
How come? Isn't it too early to do the make-over for Christmas? Are we not finding ourselves still in the thick of the Advent Season, with its more subdued, reflective and pensive mood, as the universal church is encouraging us to do?
Apparently, we do things differently in the Philippines. In 1940, at the request of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines, the pope agreed to grant the Philippines Indultos y Privilegios de Filipinas, a privilege to sing glory to God (Rorate Coeli Desuper) on the nine days preceding the nativity of the Lord, from December 16 to December 24.
Have up you started decorating your homes and churches for Christmas?

@Junbals There are less houses displaying Christmas decorations these days fr Jun. The streets and the houses of our community/neighborhood are not decorated yet unlike in the previous years. Only the main roads of our city are lighted up with Christmas lights and decorations. I suspect this is going to be a somber Christmas fr Jun.

@Junbals Yes I agree fr Jun. We'll just have to take this pandemic and learn from it. Life is a series of highs and lows and this pandemic is the lowest.

I didn´t know that. I will not decorate my house as we always did it with Leticia. I´m going to Claudia´s for Christmas.
