I am becoming more aware that holidays and traditions in other countries are different than those in America. I aiding my foreign language studies through and app called hellotalk. I am also learning much about other cultures. That would be fun to do on mylot as well.
Since we are in the Christmas season, I want to share the Christmas traditions in America and would love to hear from others (American and other nationalities) their traditions during this time of year.
The first one I want to mention is SECRET SANTA GIFT EXCHANGE. This tradition most often takes place in small group settings of churches, small businesses, non-profits, and private schools. In this tradition, the members of the group place their names(with a list of things they would like for Christmas) in a santa hat and then everyone draws a name. The name you draw, you must choose one or more item for that person and buy a gift for the upcoming Christmas party. The giver does not sign the gift, thus becoming a secret santa. When the recipient opens the gift they have to guess who their secret santa is. There are variations on the game, but whatever form, it has proven to be a fun tradition.
So tell me if you have ever played this game and if it was different than described above.

I have been a part of churches that have secret santa through out the year. They just change the name of who they are buying for each month. They are suppose to do something once a week for the name they draw. It can be a card or a gift or act of service. I love being involved in the year round secret santas.

Yes I have played this game at home and in the place where I worked before. There is another variant to this game. It's called " manianito -manianita". It has the same mechanics as The SECRET SANTA GIFT EXCHANGE. The drawing of the names starts either one or two weeks before the Christmas Party of the group or the community. The names each person draws is kept secret until the Christmas Party. All throughout the one or two weeks period small gifts are given to the person drawn but in secret to be revealed on the day of the Christmas Party.
