Ungrateful #2 - My Story

This time, it's my own story that I want to share. Please don't think that I have nothing but negative experiences or stories to tell, actually this one ended on a happy note, even though it does not seem like it is going to be at the beginning. My husband and I both got turkeys from our work. Since obviously we do not need 2 turkeys for Thanksgiving, we decided to give one to our neighbor's daughter in law who lost her husband last year (their son). They have 5 kids, and we figure as a single parent not having to buy turkey is one less thing for her to worry about. Our neighbor (her parents in law) heard about what we did. And the husband (father in law) went to my husband when he was out doing something in the garage, and asked how come we gave their daughter in law a turkey and not them? My husband said he was a bit confused with the question, he thought our neighbor is just messing with him. But he was seriously upset that we did not give them a turkey. Unfortunately, the other turkey that we got is already promised to my husband's niece. My husband and I were traveling for Thanksgiving so we don't want or need it. My husband said that maybe next year if we have extra we will share it with them. The neighbor turned around and walked away but not before muttering that he has to wait for a year. Then yesterday, we received a Christmas card from him and his wife, but it is pretty obvious that his wife is the one who wrote it. She said that we have to excuse her husband for the turkey incident because he was just being an old fart (her words, not mine). I showed it to my husband who burst out laughing. Then he told me that he promised not be an old fart someday. He will be old, but not a fart.

Cute story. It reminds me - When I met my husband, my father and uncles were all Grumpy Old Men. I made my husband promise not to become one

I have a theory - old men become grumpy because they start to have aches and pains due to age and strain. Or they don't have a lady in their life to tell them to straighten up.

Probably because he is actually a nice guy, but I guess he got jealous that he did not get any from us. I would think that he would be happy for her son's widow, but like a small child he wants one for himself too.
