I have a CONFESSION to make...

...and that is killing a whisker during my university days. In fact, I had my partners in crime and they were my classmates in Zoology. It is a fact that cannot be overturned at that time. Most people who took medical field majors did not escape from killing other animals, such as bullfrogs, red snappers, sharks, etc. Of course, fat cats are preferred to be killed to learn their anatomical structures. You might be thinking about why we need to do this. Cat resembles a human's anatomy. It is a preparation for medical students to dissect cadavers in the school's morgues after passing the Zoology subjects. Thus, they are being used to learn more. Honestly, I am not proud to do these things before. I don't have a choice but go with the flow. Does it sound cruel? Have you heard about this fact? Image Credit: news.stanford.edu

@rakski It's our secret. I bought my frog's skeletal system during the final project.

@DocAndersen That's great! It needs to monitor the animals' rights.

My classmates and I were so petrified killing a cat. I think it is my classmate's cat. It took so many attempts to convince him to give in to this idea. The last resort is to buy one from a cat's seller.

@Shavkat in the US you have to get the animals from a certified company.

We had a topic in Science to study the effect of pollution on animals in the water. Since I couldn't find a tadpole, a friend brought a fish. The moment we poured soap into the water, the fish was jumping like it was dying. It must've been in a lot of pain. I couldn't forget that moment since. I even cried that day. I know it's for Science but I couldn't do it. That's the last year I took Science. The next year we should take Biology to replace Science. I managed enter a stream that allowed me to drop Biology and replaced it with Basic Accounting. I am certainly not suitable for such subject.

I had my moment when killing a turtle. It did cry before killing it. I even asked my classmates to cover the head part. Some of my classmates were not able to last and changed their majors. As they said, "You need to have a strong heart to be able to finish a medical major."

At some point, I did enjoy learning so many things with these science-related subjects. I do agree that some of my classmates shifted to different courses because they cannot deal with dissecting animals or cadavers.

I wonder if we need to kill a whisker to learn about human body. I believe a cadave is the best option and that's what is used our medical colleges in India.

For me, it does not need to. During my time, it is a part of the learning process and needs to kill a whisker.

I never heard about this. It does sound so cruel. But humans are the cruelest creature. You did it because you had too. I won't blame you. But maybe people should change the method?

At present, medical students can use human models or dummies instead of cadavers. Killing cats is still being practiced.
