What is Simbang Gabi? It is the nine-day dawn Masses traditionally provided for the farmer and fisher folks before they set out to the fields and the sea. Belief has it the nine days alludes to the nine months the Messiah was in the Womb of the Blessed Mother. That is why the faithful could whisper a wish, that upon completion of the novena, on the Birth of the Messiah, the wish will be granted. Used to be the 3 am tolling of the bells wake the faithful from slumber, to prepare for the 4 am Simbang Gabi. That was difficult to do because December nights are cold. Personally, I completed that Advent novena only once in my life, when I was in my youth. This pandemia, I intended to join the online novena. Sadly, I failed on the very first day. I was tardy. Sigh. I caught the tail end of the Mass, which was in the vernacular. Feeling forlorn, I searched for another Mass and participated in the convivial celebration at the Manila Cathedral. Again, the Mass was in Tagalog. Most likely, this is to provide the Filipinos in foreign lands a feel of home. Sharing the Diocese of the Divine Word, where I often join virtual Masses.

Thank you. Here's hoping many could see the Filipino devout, grateful and hopeful that all will be well amid the trials in life. Special intention in the novena is for the healing from the contagion currently crippling the world.

Happy Third Advent to you and thank you for sharing. I do my praying at home in the morning and before bed but the one thing I really miss is going to church on Christmas Eve

The actual attendance in Church is a longing beyond all telling. That is primarily the reason I did believe the pandemia is chastisement. We had been deprived entrance in the House of our God. So happy a dispensation was given so we could celebrate Masses in our own homes. Praying is very important and am glad you pray morning and evening. Our God loves the morning offerings and the thanksgiving verses. Our good Lord keep you safe and warm.

We also started attending the mass online too. We tried browsing through it and found out about quiapo church besides the parish we are in when attending the mass. We also find it hard to attend on time with it so we usually have the replay of the masses.

@eileenleyva Wow you will be doubly blessed for that. I just woke up early today because we just had our company Christmas party online last night and was a bit made me wake up early today. My wife still sleeps so I cannot go to attend mass yet.

I am an early riser so it ain't much of a challenge to attend the online Misa de Gallo. I was just late the first day because of the previous night's activity. Learned my lesson and saw to it I hit the bed before 9 pm. I love attending the Masses in actual time. In fact, I even hear at least two Masses. I have heard Mass online at Quiapo Church, too. And Manaoag. Even Pontifico Collegio Fillipino in Rome. I discovered that I got addicted to Mass at anytime of the day.

@rsa101 Much to pray for this ghastly pandemic second surge. The virus variants are becoming stronger. Cannot let my guard down. We have to pray more and more.

This is what I miss. And because of the time difference, I cannot attend a live Simbang Gabi. I managed to complete 2 Simbang Gabi in my younger years. And yes, my wishes were granted - I passed the CPA Board Exam, and was offered a job abroad. Maybe I can join the Christmas eve mass, barring any work issues. Which reminds me, I need to file my remaining vacation days. Maybe then they will not call me.

The accounting board is a reason to propel one to complete the novena. Glad you believed and your prayers were granted. About time to do that again, this time, in thanksgiving for all the blessings you received.
