It Happened Again!!

Hello, fellow mylotters!! Hope everyone had a very blessed Christmas!! I wrote a post in January about how our electric bill had sky rocketed. Upon finding out most of the village was affected by this, we still had to pay it. (We had a payment plan, but still, not really any good explanation.) Well, we recently got our utility bill and this time it wasn't the electric, it was the water stating we used 23,000 gallons of water in a month!!! Did research and for one person per day, the usage is 80-100 gallons, so even figuring two people that number would not even be close to 23,000 gallons in one month!!! Their "explanation" this time was that they weren't able to take a reading, no reason of why they couldn't. They just estimated it and then suddenly they could read it and the number that they "suddenly" could find didn't match up with their estimations, even though we've already paid for them. So, now my husband and I are thinking that we should buy our own meters and put them inside our home and that way we will know exactly what our readings are, because we can't trust them!! https://www.mylot.com/post/3338441/what-happened ~Peace~

Seems like someone in your city is trying to make up for overspending somewhere. Start keeping all your bills so you have 'proof' of average usage.

Oh, yes I do!! But they have a way of "readjusting" the numbers without telling a person.

@STOUTjodee Our city electric is the same way. They'll rook you any way they can. I am so glad I have Ga Power, they are awesome.

Many times they will say they estimate the bills.

Yeah, but my question is why they didn't notify us? All of a sudden what we think is "normal" billing is now 21,000 gallons more. When I reread the message to my husband, they had been estimating since this summer, that's 6-7 months they knew but they didn't tell us!!

Something sounds fishy there... Aren't estimates based on past usuage?

In Germany, meters are always inside the houses and the tenants can check them if they're interested.

That's why we want to get meters inside our home, because apparently we can't depend on the village workers to be honest!!

@STOUTjodee That would be a good solution.

Sorry to learn that your water and electrical bills were higher than a kite.

It seems like their is a pattern, it's in the winter months and that's when my hubby gets laid off.

That definitely would not hurt. It sounds like someone at the utilities company isn't doing their job properly! You shouldn't have to pay for their mistake or for the malfunctioning of their equipment.

Exactly!!! It's particularly suspicious when the first of this year it was the electric!! What will it be next year???
