Day 142 Promise 601 2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness? 15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? Or what part hath he who believes with an infidel? 16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, says the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty. People want inclusion. They will do all they can to be part of something and accepted by their peers. Often inclusion causes trouble. Paul told the Corinthian believers they were to separate themselves from unbelievers. They already belonged to Jesus Christ. They didn’t need any other inclusion. As Christians, compromise seems to echo through the church. You want to be known as Christians. Yet, you also want acceptance by your peers. If you go along with what they say and do, you’re okay and included in their community. However, when you separate yourself from them and stand on God’s Word, they tell you that you are narrow-minded and need to open yourself up to the world around you. You need to separate yourself from those who follow the world, who want you to compromise your faith in Jesus Christ. Paul said you are to examine yourself. He told the Corinthians they needed to examine themselves when it came to partaking of the Lord’s Supper. 1 Corinthians 11:27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks unworthily, eats and drinks damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. 30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. 31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. It isn’t only the Lord’s Supper you need to examine yourself. It’s in every area of your life. When you do, you won’t have trouble resisting the temptations of the world. Compromise puts a barrier between you and God. Jesus broke down that barrier on the cross. Break down the barrier you erected and let the love of Jesus Christ permeate everything you do. Only then will God dwell in you and be with you wherever you go. Let’s pray: Father, help me separate myself from the world and its many temptations. Let me discern right from wrong as I stand on Your Word to direct my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 31 December 2020 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay
