The Danger Of Getting Your Nails Done

We had a chance to catch up with our neighbor as she was taking her dogs out for a walk, and I am getting the mail from our mailbox. It was a nice visit, and she noticed my newly painted nails. She asked me where I got them done, and I told her that I just did it myself as I was not able to get a new appointment soon. She warned me about the nail salon at the mall, because she got nail fungus from there.
That is something that I would hear but I have never heard it from someone that I personally know. She warned me not to go there lest I also get it. I asked her if she knows that they do not sanitize their tools, and she told me that she saw that they did before they used it on her feet, but seems like it is not properly sterilized or sanitized.
She has been trying to get rid of it for months now, and nothing is working. She will try something, and it will get better for a while, and then it will come back. Now she hopes to get it treated before the summer so she can wear flip flops without feeling conscious of it, or making it worse.
I got scared of her ordeal now that I think I will just do my nails myself. And I will never ever share my own tools. She was so uncomfortable that I think she impressed upon me that it's not worth it.

I have always been of the opinion, why pay someone to do something that you can do yourself? All you need are the right tools. And, it's done your way each time, because you're the one doing it.

I guess for me I think I am availing not only the service but the feeling of being pampered. But then again, what's stopping me to pamper my own self? You are right, and I agree with you. I will order the tools or get some from Walgreen's and I will just do it myself. It will even be much cheaper.

@Raine38 Yep, exactly. It is nice to have someone else do something like that for you, but you can always pamper yourself.

maybe she needs to go to a dermatologist for it if it keeps coming back?
what i heard is being careful if you're diabetic. but yeah it didn't occur to me you could get nail fungus, too, so yeah, something to be wary of.

I also thought about it too, if she is diabetic. But she is not, it is just a nasty infection that she got from there. She will try to consult a specialist once she manage to secure an appointment. With the current situation with this pandemic, she is finding it hard to get one.

I never thought about the possibility of getting fingernail fungus. Thanks for the warning.
