Why smoking is taboo while drinking is good ?

I live in a conservative type of family and they are almost chill about everything except smoking. From what I have analysed drinking makes a person violent and nonsensical, while smokers.. well it doesn’t affect anything at all. Yet smoking is considered so bad and antisocial while drinking is like a norm while socialising. What do you guys think of it ?

It largely depends on where you live and the culture. I am a Muslim living in a Muslim country, so here we have the opposite perspective, where smoking is tolerated but drinking is frowned upon. There are cons to both actions, health wise and when it comes to impact on the person and their family, especially related to addiction in both. I'm not a smoker or drinker but this is just the viewpoint where I live.

@ShankyAmbasta You're most welcome! In my personal opinion, I'm more bothered when someone smokes around me or my baby, because of the second hand smoke. It's really someone unintentionally but still consciously harming others. Drinking really doesn't have that kind of implication unless someone is drunk, but I personally find smoking more invasive to those around you.

@Sabasw Yes what you say is totally correct and smoking does harm the smoker as well as people around him. Maybe that’s why it is considered worse than drinking. Wishing your baby a healthy and joyful life ! :)

Ohh I see. Yes I guess I remember drinking being prohibited in some communities. Yes both do harm the health anyway. So I’m guessing there are some countries where smoking is better off than drinking. Thanks for your viewpoint!

@ShankyAmbasta both smoking and drinking act as slow killers

Same goes for drinking. But the caution shows smoking can kill as well.
