$40 For Membership?

Last year, I passed the exam to be a certified professional on my chosen career path. One of the advises that I received, which I am now contemplating if it's a good one or not, is to join our local chapter. I was told by the national and international level that they are the best resource for any new laws that I need to keep tabs on. I found out that my national membership gives me access to all these new rules and laws just fine. My membership last year with the local chapter did not bring me anything, not even an email of what's new. Then I saw about a past event at our local hotel, which I did not hear anything about. It's like they stopped talking to me as soon as they secured my membership fee. This morning, I got a notification that my credit card was charged for $40. I immediately checked what this is all about and it turns out to be the renewal for my 2021 membership with the local chapter. Well, I do not want to contact them and tell them that I really did not find the organization useful - I am new in this profession after all, and I do not want to be on the wrong side of those who might be able to help in my career advancement - who knows. I was thinking maybe I can ask my bank to reverse the charges, but it turns out that they will be able to do so if I file a dispute, but then they will have to cancel my card. I decided to give this organization another chance this year. Maybe they will be more mindful of their members after the craziness of COVID that raged unto us last year. If not, well my credit card will expire in March of this year, and I have no plans to update my payment information.

I hope so too. It's still too early to tell, but we'll see.

I hope so, if someone from them decides to respond to my email. Ugh, what a pain.

@RebeccasFarm Exactly, it's not a good sign. And to think they are supposed to be helping me and showing me the ropes as I am new in the profession.

@Raine38 Truly that is a pain sorry it happened and it does not seem professional to do that.

Give it a time to see whether it's worth it. If it's not, you can cancel it. Since your card is expiring as well, it would be a good thing. No more surprise charges.
