I first found Ilsa Madden-Mills when I read Dirty English. When I fell in love with that book, I looked up more. I read an excerpt of I Promise You and it sounded good so I grabbed it.
Dillion McQueen is full of stress, anxiety and insecurities. Not that he shows any of it. He's confident on the football field and in life. He's starting Quarterback in his senior year and even though coach got an extremely talented rookie, Dillion is determined to show that it's him that belongs on the field.
Serena has had a rough few years. Her parents died...together, she got wrapped up in a bad relationship, she takes care of her little sister and tries to help her nana out whenever she can. Life has taught her that she's better on her own and just taking care of her family. Money has been an issue but it will get better one day.
Add an old bon-fire legend to the story and you have just the right amount of drama.
Neither one wants to like each other based on stereotypes but they are drawn to each other and fate seems to just keep throwing them together. The more they talk, the more they find out that they both are more than what they first seemed.
What happens though, when Serena finds out his big secret? It's one that will either tear them apart...but just maybe she can find it in herself to forgive him.
I love the humor in this book. It had me laughing until I cried, the interaction between Dillion and Serena is just great. You also can't help but feel kind of sorry for Serena and everything she had went through. You can see why she doesn't want to trust Dillion but yet you root for them to pull through their issues.
To me it was well worth buying and I would recommend it.

It sounds interesting to read, the feeling that draws them near repels at the start and is opposing and that is where the story rolls. I could imagine how they start their conversation arguing, exchaging bad words before they got closer ending into a beautiful love story. I'm trying to complete the story with my imagination
. I hope to find that story in the bookstore.

It really was a great story. They met again three years later after the bonfire and you're right. They exchanged some insults. Neither one actually had a smooth three years in between and Serena had a lot of walls put up so she didn't let him affect her.
I had to get it off of amazon but there are some used book stores that have it as well.
