Where has the time gone?

For me, this past month seems to fly and drag at the same time. So many changes have happened and it's been one wild ride. Back in December, I posted about my husband's Pizza Hut closing. No, he did not lose his job. However, he's been trying to belong somewhere ever since. First week, he worked at Mainpath, the beachside location. And, for the past three he's been working at the Port Orange location. As of today, he's been requested and transferred to the Beville location, but the funny thing is the Port Orange location still needs him until one more manager can be brought up. When we learned of what was to happen, he had been understandably concerned about what impact this would have on his paycheck. But, now it sounds as if his checks will improve because he'll start to get the same hours that he was used to. Only now, he's going in-between two stores shared by two rgms (restaurant general managers). The weather seems to taunt us too. We'll have cool or cold days, followed by one spring-like day. This is typical Florida winter weather, but it's a pain. George will check the weather on his phone and curse it out when he reads the high is actually colder than he would like.

Happy that his paychecks will improve. Weather in my city is always unexpected and taunting kinds. And it stays the same way throughout year. There is nothing on predicted line.

Glad to know that your husband did not loose his job due to this pandemic. So many people lost theirs and could not get a new one. My daughter is one of them. She was working for Oyo which is in hospitality business which is doomed. She is still searching for one.

My husband's close friend, whom he sees as a sister, had the same thing happen. Hotels just aren't keeping staff because no one is staying in them to make it worth it. I am surprised some can even keep their doors open.

I am sorry he has to bounce around to stores. What kind of a mileage radius is it that he has to travel in. Well it sounds like he will always have a job..they need him. The weather here is crazy..its freezing today. Have a good day Kayla.

I want to say 8 to ten if he goes to Port Orange, and about half that if he goes to Bevvile. Beville is about half the distance. So it'll vary depending on what store he's working in, or weather he has to open or not. If he opens that's an extra trip to the bank and back.

He gets decent pay. If that's what you're asking. He was complaining to me earlier about how a new employee was bragging about how he came in getting paid 13\hour and he's only getting like 10.5\hour and he's been employed by the same company for 27 years. I told hin while it looks good on paper, when it comes to tax return he's going to be more likely to come out on top. because he's in a lower tax bracket, and someone who's close to that 15/hour goal, will be in a higher bracket. He also doesn't get how percentages work, either. So while it seems the guy who's netting a little more a paycheck, may wind up paying for it when it comes time to file. Of course, I doubt he even remembers that conversation. @RebeccasFarm

I’d be confused with that kind of schedule. How does he keep up?

He's just as confused. He basically has two schedules for two different places. He's done it before, when he had to scramble to get hours some years back, but it's better to be at one unit.

Oh, yeah. I know exactly what you mean. No one wants to be out of work at a time like this-- or anytime. Husband hasn't talked about retirement in a few months. I think he realizes he can't make himself stop working.

That's what we're hoping for. All I know, is that George was I'm not sure what, when he came home today. Well could be worse. I'll be glad once this starts to smooth out.

For some Floridians, maybe. Of course I'm in Daytona so..... there's a difference. I'll be happy for the spring-like temps. Or, I should say my husband will be.

I am grateful for that. I just wish managers would stop fighting like children over him and give him some say on what he wants to do and where he wants to be.

Tough times to hold a job but your husband is needed and that is big plus. I made sure I was also needed but other factors kicked in from time to time. Happy to be retired now.

He keeps talking about retirment in a couple of years, but he enjoys being busy and having something to do. He can't not turn off his management switch. He's going to work until he can't anymore.

@kaylachan I was in finance and accounts and after forty five years I felt the strain. Even during leave time, I could not shake off office matters.
