My Husband Said To Wait

We have another wedding invitation that we need to RSVP on. We received this on the first week of January, with RSVP and our meal choice. We have until March 31st to mail our RSVP card.
I kept on asking the husband about his meal choice, but he keeps stalling. He said we still have more than a month to respond, and a lot of things can happen between now and then. I asked him, what is going to happen? The bride is his niece by the way, the daughter of his older brother.
One time he was on the phone with another older brother, and the subject of the niece's wedding came up. Since I was within hearing distance, my husband said that I have been bugging him about the RSVP. His brother said that we have time to respond, and that things can change. I was baffled, what can happen? Is there something in this family that I should know?
All I know is that the father of the bride has a new wife from the Philippines who is 8 years older than his daughter. And that her mother will be there at her wedding, of course, and I am sure that her father will be there with his new wife and her 10-year old daughter. But everyone is an adult, I do not think there will be issues. Worse case scenario, my husband and I will have to play referee but that's it.
