When Your Family Spoils You

My cousin and her family went to the Philippines to attend her brother's (my other cousin) wedding. My husband and I were unable to go because of work, and their trip is actually a surprise for them since they did not know if their work will accommodate their vacation request as she is a doctor.
They came back last weekend, and I received a package from her today. In it are more treats and goodies from the Philippines! I got more of my favorite coffee, candied tamarind, suman (rice cakes) with lihiya (coco jam), ube cheese pandesal (sweetened yam and cheese rolls), and fish crackers. I am so spoiled!
My husband and I already finished a container of the candied tamarinds, which I am okay with as tamarinds have vitamin C. These candies are a mix of sweet, sour and a dash of saltiness. I wish I can pay her thoughtfulness back, hopefully this summer they approve my vacation so I can go visit her. I have been promising her that I will cook them some of her favorite foods the next time we're together.

That is such a treat, that pasalubong she sent you. Just about my favorite delicacies, too.
You are a thoughtful and kind person. Right away you are thinking of cooking for your cousin and family. The sweetest gesture a relative can bestow another.

I grew up in a closely knit family, so even though we live across the country from each other we still keep in touch. We can even go for months without talking because we get busy with life happening, but whenever we talk it's as if we just spoke to each other yesterday.

@Raine38 I wouldn't mind having Christmas every day. Birthdays everyday is an altogether different thing.

I hope you get the time off, and you won't have any issues with international travel. Good luck, and enjoy your treats. Perhaps she'll send some more before her return.

That's true. We can hope they don't do that. But only one or two states have reached "stage three reopening" and others imposed even more restrictions.@Raine38

i'm glad they had an "uneventful" trip (with corona and all). did they have to quarantine, do the tests, etc here and when they returned?
okay, now i'm super curious what brand of coffee and tamarind they sent you. (i'm impressed, again, by the suman, lihiya and pandesal making it there.)

Yes, they have to have negative tests going there and coming back, which I am happy that everything checked out.
They sent me Nescafe gold and the Nescafe white. They vacuum sealed the suman so it survived the trip, banana leaves and all. They did confiscate other items like the magicsarap.

@Raine38 vacuum packing does make sense! yeah, nescafe gold is like brewed coffee. too bad the others were confiscated. i always wonder how they dispose those items.
