Ponk Season has arrived in Surat!!

Hi guys, Hope you all are doing good. I stay in Surat city which comes under Gujarat state, India. Surat is famous for variety of food dishes and snack items. It's available only here and nowhere else. One such ingredient is Ponk. Ponk is the name it's refered to in Surat. Actually it's millet that is roasted under a charcoal and then it's beaten up so that the shelling gets removed and only the grains are left. It's available in winter season only starting from November till January. It's available mainly in December and January month during cold climate. In the past there was a specific area where there was a lineup of stalls where you can get ponk and fritters made out of it. Also sev/ vermicilli is made from it. Nowadays, in every areas one can easily find the stalls as population of Surat has increased manifold in last few years. We enjoy and relish ponk, also the fritters and vermicilli with it. Ponk or Millet has many benefits for a good health which are as follows:- 1. It's high in fiber. 2. It's high in protein. 3. It helps in releasing sugar from the body. 4. It helps to keep cholesterol levels in check 5. It's gluten free so is healthy. Nowadays, however the price of ponk has increased much. It's 500rs per kg and it doesn't taste sweet anymore so we have stop eating it raw. Still we buy fritters and vermicilli in different colours and flavours like in lemon pepper, garlic green one and chilli orange in colour.
