We owe the invention of the safety pin to a nervous man.
Walter Hunt was focusing on his debts when he began to worry a piece of wire between his fingers. He bent it this way and that and quickly realized that it could fasten onto itself if bent a certain way.
What did he call this invention? The dress pin
How much did the man owe? $15.00 (or $404.04 USD today)

Me and my sisters when we were teens use to make friendship puns with them and we would put them on our tennis shoes that we wore in the summer and we alsontried selling some.

Oh, did you get anybody buying them? I've seen those friendship pins before but it's been awhile. How cute!

@Tina30219 My friend made hemp bracelets and sold a few of them when they were really popular.

People like Walter Hunt amaze me. We have so many things because of men and women who tried and did come up with something useful many of us use today.

I think the women impress me the most, especially when they had to muddle through the menfolk and their way of thinking.

$15 doesn't buy a lot anymore.

This was an ingenious invention, still very useful so many years later. Very interesting AmberLynn, thanks!

@kobesbuddy That's completely understandable. I have done the same with blouses that I love but don't want to show too much.

I have two safety pins pinned to my laundry basket for safe keeping. Not sure why I put them there (as I did so years ago) but at least I know where they are.

@ScribbledAdNauseum My one dress has a tiny safety pin stored inside the neckline. When I wear the dress, I use that safety pin to assure that my neckline isn't too low in front. I'm very modest and don't want to appear like I'm not.
