How Much of This is Real (and How Much is 'Only Scare-Tactics')?

They say that China's trying to steal American DNA-information. Or maybe they 'hint at that' (but totally "don't say that"), but that's the general impression I get. https://www.cbsnews.com/video/us-officials-tell-60-minutes-that-china-is-trying-to-collect-americans-dna/ I ask (and I think Jon Wertheim asked security-officials, whose answers steered him back into the 'scary stories'), "So? So-what if Chinese businesses have my DNA-information and use it to sell me things that might make my life better (and will definitely make them richer)? So-what if their health-industry outperforms all the other health-industries in the world?" I understand that 'their out-performing all the other countries' might mean "those with the means" will take their business out of 'their own countries' and will pay the Chinese to take care of their health. And I know that 'healthcare' isn't a business you can just get into one day and decide to do something else the next (so--when your country's healthcare-industry suffers--you can't just "jump ship" ... well, you can; but it's a huge time-investment you're destroying!) I guess it's like 'assembly-line workers whose jobs are being taken by machines'---they find their skills can apply to other areas of the industry (or to similar-but-different industries), but some people have difficulty adapting. I think the main problem people have with 'China taking-in all the information they're gathering' is that they're not sharing the information they take (probably because they have to pay to get it).

Well, that's true. No health orgnizination can legally sell your information. However, how do we know that data is actually being used to improve lives? How do we know it's for the betterment of all involved? China, just like anyone else, won't hesitate to tell you exactly what you want to hear.

'Are some people dishonest for money?' Of course! That wasn't my question. I wanted to know 'What would they do with my DNA information?'
