Delicious Words : A boy eats the family bible

This doesn't sound appetizing in the least....
In 1926 a boy by the name of Mellzo McCoy ate all but the family record and the front and back cover of the family bible. Apparently the boy had an appetite for dirt, but the father had no idea his weird cravings had graduated to paper.
I assume the boy was deficient in iron or a similar vitamin / mineral and that is why he salivated over the bible.

Yeah, I know Iron deficiency can cause a craving for toilet paper so I'm guesing it's the same with regular paper.

I think Iron deficiency causes a craving for paper.... Probably the boy was severely deficient.

That really was strange! I've heard of pregnant women eating clay because of something missing in their diet. I think it was called pica.

I believe I've heard that as well. Hopefully the prenatal vitamins cover most of the deficiencies now.

Have you ever watched "My Strange Addiction"? If you have Discovery+ there are a couple of programs like that. Very interesting post.

I've heard of it but haven't watched it and yes I have discovery +. Actually, they should be billing me for my first month today.
