I did it!

This was both the easiest and hardest thing for me to do. Mom had jewelry in two plastic containers, four little bottles that had a knob handle, in various cardboard and velvet boxes and in this jewelry box. The only thing I kept was one earring with her name on it (dont' know where the other one went), a pretty bracelet that I was drawn too and any lockets / pendant charms with pictures of the family. There were also some Candian pennies and a canadian quarter (I think) that I kept. This was difficult to do. She's been gone for many years, but this right here was the major thing that I couldn't see myself parting with even a few years ago.

Oh the bear in the top right of the picture? Nope, it belonged to my brother. I just keep it because it's cute.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I had only one soft toy which my dog destroyed in Anger. Later I chose not to bring any until I have pets. It's been over 30 years now, I never had a soft toy

@ScribbledAdNauseum And they are still in single piece... That shows how you maintain things. I am a rough user of everything. ( of course not the stuffed toys.. but looks like my all pets never been handy with Stuff toys, my shoes, my pillow ) I stopped buying fancy pillows and shoes

With the exception of a box I can't get to, the only things I have now of hers are ones I want to keep. It's hard sometimes to just get rid of stuff our loved ones treasured at one time.

@paigea I hope I do not have to think about being gone for some time to come, but I know I would want any loved ones to have very few things to sort through of mine.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I know. This is on my list. No one will want to be stuck with this job when I'm gone.

I'm glad that they are gone though. I'm only keeping my mom's dolls, some of her pictures and precious moments stuff.

@Tina30219 My mom's house was so cluttered when we went into it. This place is cluttered too. I Live with my grandfather and my uncle. I moved in in 2011 when I divorced. Wanted to move a time or two but stayed because my grandmother wanted to. Now I stay because these two men would just live in filth and eating fast food all the time if I let them.

I remember how hard it was to go through my mother's jewelry after she passed. I went through and threw away the junk and put aside the good pieces. I then had my daughters and had them go through the jewelry to pick the things they wanted.

@HazySue Thank you and you are right. Her passing was both sudden and not so unexpected. She was ill for most of my life.

I don 't think you ever get over someone dear to you passing on. There will be a time when you can look back on her life and remember it fondly. @ScribbledAdNauseum

I have a wooden box with a broken barrette, with Mom's name on it. My father bought it for her many years ago.

My mom had a jacket with her name on it. It was from one of my father's construction jobs. I got rid of it last year and that was painful.

Harder than any of the other things i've gotten rid of through the years. At one time those pieces of jewelry meant a lot to her.

We all heal at our on pace. I still have things left over from my cat, Precious, who's been gone three years, I can't bring myself to toss.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I can agree. We don't have our pets nearly as long as we have people. I think losing Precious hit me harder, because he was one of the last gifts my mom gave me. He also surprised us by living to be ninteen.

In some ways the loss of a beloved pet is harder than that of family and friends.

@kaylachan I think Precious is a fitting name for him. I was talking to a friend of mine who recently had to make the hard decision of putting her sweet border collie down. We both wished our pets lived as long as we did.

@Nevena83 Yes it does. Now I need to put some decorations in that purple tote and free up some space on my shelves.
