500 Years of Christianity in a Country Corrupt.

The 500th year celebration of Christianity in the Philippines is fast approaching. The Spaniards came to our shores 16 March 1521. It is with great sorrow that we have in our nation today callous and corrupt citizens. While we hail the festivities of the Child Jesus, the Black Nazarene, and devotions to our Lady and the saints, here in our midst are people cheating and lying and abusing our fellow man. Splendidly-dressed communicants fill the aisle during Communion but thievery exists in all walks of life. Yes, we call ourselves Christians.

I think it is best for everyone to keep their faith as they see fit. I pray at home and I keep believing,

What is faith if people continue with corruption?

@eileenleyva that, unfortunately, is life but it does not mean I have to give up on my faith anyway

@RasmaSandra Thievery has become a way of life. People have become unconscionable. Self aggrandizement is not in congruence with the Christian Philosophy.

That is an unfortunate though since the 5 centuries of being called Christians we do not or not able to project as one. I guess the way we were Christianized was not totally made in good faith since historically our religion was somehow mixed with politics, discrimination, and many other things that was used to totally Christianized the whole country. We may still need to reform for another century again to fully transform what an ideal Christian should be.

@eileenleyva Well l think it is human flaws because since biblical times men have been like that in the times in old and even in New Testament. I guess it’s really up to us to really where we will be in the next years to come

We ain't got the luxury of another century. Check out why POTUS46 is in haste about America's position on climate change. India had an avalanche. The US was covered with snow. The politics and religion Spain brought was supposedly just till impostors infiltrated the government and the pulpit.

@eileenleyva Sometimes I feel that the technological advancement has even made this world more indifferent with God.

I think it happens because most of us don't really accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and savior. We just accept God when things will be convenient to God. But when it comes to our bad habits, bad ambitions and too materialistics and hunger in power we tend to ditch God and start worshipping money and power. Sad life, I can't wash my hands, because whenever I feel uncomfortable with God ways I tend to rebel and runaway from Him. But I am still believing in myself that there will come a time that I will learn to obey Him even it is too hard... coz nothing is too hard for Him just to save me because His love for me and to all of you is greater than any bad ambitions that we have in life. And satisfaction can only be found in Christ our God and only living God.

Unfortnately, corruption has existed way before Christianity was born. And how can it be stopped when the practice goes unnoticed even in the smallest unit in the society?

The Ten Commandments was discussed thoroughly in the pentateuch. How to stop it? As per Mother Theresa's advice - if you want to be good, go home and be good in your own family. A Christian's mission is to spread the 'Word' as tirelessly was each can, even if it means one's life.

@jrlcentral True. That is why I used to bring 5, 10, and 25 centavo coins to the supermarket and teach the cashiers to give the exact change. It was painstaking but if one does not tell them that it is wrong if they fail to give even a measly change, that they would be answerable to that on judgment day, then one would have been amiss with our Christian duty. Glad for the card payment, the cashiers are no longer tempted.

@eileenleyva That is correct, but the question is, what's happening within the families? We kept seeing the corruption of the government officials and other people ... but corruption has taken roots much deeper that we often don't see or refuse to see... If you want to stop corruption, start from where you are...
