Texted my elderly friend about my fb memories that showed the two of us dining at Aristocrat, a famous Philippine Restaurant. That was four years ago. She replied she misses our conversations especially now that America has unraveled its elected leaders and lawmakers loyalty to their vested interests. Specifically, my elderly friend said America has no Manuel Luis Quezon, the first president during the Commonwealth period who, when he won, said: "My loyalty to my party ends where my loyalty to my country begins." President Manuel Luis Quezon was true to that creed. And if you wonder what kind of man MLQ was, he was the only leader of the world who moved heaven and earth to get the Jews to our archipelago when the Germans were gassing them in chambers.
"Quezon's Game" tells of the audacious plan to save thousands of Jews during the Holocaust that was first hatched around a friendly game of poker in the Philippines.

He was stymied by Washington DC. Said he could only get a thousand Jews each year for the next ten years. President Quezon was prepared to give lands in Mindanao to Jews, so they could flourish there.

@Laurakemunto That is exactly what is expected of a true leader. The true leader is not only the father of the nation but also the servant of the people.

@Overflowing Not on netflix yet. I checked. But Heneral Luna and Goyo are listed. Watch the first two of the trilogy on Philippine History. Heneral Luna is critically acclaimed.
