I have this book as part of my collection of antiques reference books and whenever I look through it I am reminded of my childhood.
Whenever I went to visit some older friends and relatives , they always used to show me their new ornament that they had added to their collection in their china cabinet. Nearly everybody I knew back then had a china cabinet full of these small souvenirs that they had been given. These small gift had been made by Goss who were well known for making this sort of thing. Before most people went abroad on their holidays, they would go to the seaside and bring back souvenirs such as these to give to friends and family. Each little object would have the name of the town where it had been brought and you could only buy one like it from that particular town. I suppose some people used these objects as proof of where they had been to.
There must have been millions of these made during those years but often they would get broke or thrown away. This is why they have become very collectable and publishers like Millers are printing books about them to help collectors recognise which ones are worth any money.

Do you still have any of the items in their china cabinet. Sometimes this sort of thing gets passed down through the family as a way of remembering people and places. Did you travel much with them?
