Today begins, in the Christian world, the season of Lent. Today is what we call Ash Wednesday.
Usually, the faithful queue for ash be placed on the forehead. The priest mutters phrases such as:
Remember man that thou art dust and unto dust thou shalt return.
Repent and believe in the Gospel.
Sin no more and live the Gospel.
But this pandemic time, with shelter-in-place protocol, the faithful is dispensed from the queuing.
Abstinence and fasting still holds as tall order of the day.
The faithful is obliged to meditate for personal sanctification and do an act of good for glorification of our God.
All these must be done with a sincere heart.

Ash Wednesday is not specified in the Bible but history has it Jacob poured ashes on his head when he learned about Joseph's demise. Job, too, in atonement for his sins, when he lost all, though he was really a good man.
Christians observe Ash Wednesday as a day of repentance. We confess our sins and renew or profess our devotion to God.

@kobesbuddy That's what we are all here for, to help each other learn more and more about our loving God. I miss out on many details also and just recently learned about Shrove Tuesday.
I am grateful, too, for the simple and ordinary tales I get to read about giving and sharing and loving. What you and our fellow mylotters have written are the continuation of the history of our faith.

@eileenleyva This was a beautiful lesson, that I never learned before today. Thankyou, Eileen for helping me to consider some valuable facts, from the Word of God

Make up for it in the coming weeks. Abstinence and fasting beginning tomorrow, the first Friday of Lent. Plus, an act of kindness to someone.

Wow I have completely forgotten about that. Then again I haven't been to church since I lived with my parents.

We all need reminding.
I burnt my own palms earlier. The ritual included Acts of Contrition and Psalm 51.
