The British Season

United Kingdom

I found this book in a charity shop and I brought it because the cover caught my eye. The image on the cover of this book is actually taken from a British postage stamp that was printed in 1994. In fact this book was inspired by a set of stamps that were printed in that year. When I looked inside the book I was surprised to see that there was a set of five unused stamps on one of the opening pages of this book. The stamps were called `Summertime' and they showed images of events that take place during the summer in Great Britain. The book was actually printed by the Royal Mail , and I suppose this book along with the stamps could be classed as Royal Mail memorabilia which some people like to collect. The book itself is about the events that are featured on the stamps telling when and where these events are held.

They are lovely looking stamps, and I was also surprised how little stamps cost back then compared to the cost of postage nowadays. In 1994 they were still printing the price of the stamp actually on the stamp and these prices ranged from 25p to 41p.

Yes it is an interesting subject for a book, with the surprise of finding the stamps inside too.

@lazydaizee I have seen these happening most of the time in the national library when you take an old book. Even in my high school and campus I used to find such in old books. They take you back to those old golden days! Thanks for sharing that experience!

@Laurakemunto Thanks for your comments. When I mentioned that there were some stamps inside the book I meant that there were some unused postage stamps in little pouches stuck onto the inside of the book. These could have been taken out and used but whoever owned the book before me chose to keep them with the book. I enjoy reading old books too, like you say, they take you back in time.
