The little ones obeyed

The birds in our garden have to be vigilant specially the little ones as our cats just will not leave them in peace in the birdbath. I told the little ones they should be careful as I cannot help them and I see they obeyed me.
When the cats are out they are not seen in our birdbath but hang around the Chinese Hats bush chatting with each other.
I do not blame the cats either as that is their instinct One cat caught a bird and was playing with it until it died. We just could do nothing to save that bird.
How would you handle the situation?.

The birds that visit our neighborhood, are to large. If the cats did get out to go after them , the cats would be in danger. We don't let our cats out, though. And, in the four years we've owned this home we haven't had any door dash incidents. The cats have gotten into the garage, scared themselves with their meows, and stayed away.

The large sized birds are fine here it is only these baby birds that need to stay away from cats.

It is so good to see there are other people in the world like me. I have always loved animals but it was just recently that I now have a cockatiel. The bird is my grandsons and he moved away to college and ended up finding a great girlfriend. I now have that bird which I love so much. It is like having a kid in a cage as he talks to me and can actually tell me things.
I don't know who is crazier, the bird or me. I have one problem, he loves kissing me on my face but will not let me pick him up.
My problem is funny. He loves kissing me on the cheek and getting close to me while in the cage but he goes to bite me if I try to pet him. He comes to me every time I go near the cage.
I hope there are some bird lovers that can help me with this problem. I really want to hold him. When I was at my daughters and she let him out of the cage, he came right to me. I don't get it.
Is he just playing hard to get?

Similar is the story with the brood of cats we have - six of them. They will show affection in so many different ways but will not let us touch them. One cat - Peppie - allows me and that too for a short while

@allknowing Did you have them since birth? I have always had cats and dogs. Only when I was in grammar school and junior high school did I have parakeets. We always let them fly around the house and they would come to my head. I had them trained to fly back to their cage when I called them.

@ramapo17 The mother cat brings them one by one each time she delivers when they are able to eat solid food.

This reminded me of my childhood when my cat caught a bird and ran behind our cabinet as she devoured the bird. I tried to take the bird away but there's simply nothing I could do when I couldn't reach the two of them.

We have managed to save a bird or two but that is only when we see the act at the right time.

My cats catch birds when they can. Not much you can do about it.

That is what I tell everyone. Birds can fly and they should use that facility to stay away.
