"Do not bring us to the test..."

Today's Gospel dwells on a 40 day duration of our Lord Jesus being tempted in the desert. Most likely, we all know the story. Do we? Forty, of course, is a significant number in the History of Salvation. Rained 40 days and 40 nights when Noah was in the Ark. The Hebrews wandered in the wilderness for 40 years, encamped with Moses who wrote the Pentateuch. That is why Lent is called Quaresma. It has 40 days. Anyway, my real question is..... Have you succumbed to any temptation?

Nothing new to temptation. We are human after all and having strength in faith is not easy all the time.

Of course. Temptation was there at the very beginning, when that forked-tongue serpent deceived Adam and Eve into eating the Forbidden Fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. They succumbed to temptation and was banished from the Garden of Eden, that which where we one day belong - Paradise. How do we get there? Our Lord Jesus became the New Adam and showed us that temptation could be resisted. So, we must. Being human is not an excuse because our Lord was fully Human when He fasted forty days in the desert. Never easy to be human but Faith conquers all. Just strive to make those daily meditations and prayers so the faith will become formidable as a rock - like Simon who was later called Peter, the Rock.
