takeout for dinner... sort of

I'm having someone pick up dinner tonight. A local sandwich chain (Togo's) has a few family meal deals that they've added to their online menu since the pandemic lockdowns started. One of them is a "home meal kit" -- it includes 2 long loaves of bread (24" each), 2 lbs. of your choice of deli meat (up to 2 kinds), 24 slices of cheese (up to 2 kinds), 2 choices of condiments, and all of the sandwich toppings (lettuce, sliced tomatoes, onions, pickles, and pepperoncini, all individually packaged). This is by FAR cheaper than taking my family over to Togo's and having them order individual sandwiches. It makes eight 6" sandwiches, but we cut some of them into 4" instead (little tummies can't quite finish the bigger ones), and we often have enough leftover for someone else to have a sandwich for lunch the next day. The meal kit is $39, and for feeding 10 people? That's a pretty good price for takeout. I'm going to throw some minestrone soup from the freezer into a pot on the stove to go with the sandwiches. While they have the option of adding chips and soups and cookies and drinks, I think we have plenty of that sort of thing at home already. What are you having/did you have for dinner tonight? Photo credit goes to the Togo's website.

That sounds like a very good deal. Enjoy, I just had some french fires some nights I am not so hungry. Then if I want I also have some instant noodles afterward,

I had some curry instant noodles for lunch a few days ago. They were surprisingly good, considering all I did was pour boiling water on them.

This is a very good buy, considering your able to feed 10 people with this meal kit! Taking your family to buy six inch sandwiches, would cost a lot more for sure. I hope your family enjoyed this nice dinner!

@spiderdust We order out about once a week. It's just my husband and me, but the monotony of always preparing our meals, I get burnt out. Going nowhere, doing nothing? It's getting very stale!

@kobesbuddy Yes, there's only so much TV one can watch.

They do! I order it maybe once a month or less, but it's always enjoyed. I like that it's fairly customizable according to their individual tastes. For example, my youngest just wanted a Swiss cheese and mayo sandwich with his soup. Another child wanted both turkey AND ham on his sandwich. The pickle haters could leave them off of their sandwiches and the pickle lovers could pile on extra. The remaining sandwich fixings fed 2 more people at lunch today. I could probably make similar sandwiches from scratch for less, but it's nice to do this as a treat (both for the family and myself -- less work this way), especially since the kids don't really go anywhere anymore due to the pandemic. Definitely cheaper than taking them to the movies!

Wow that's an excellent price. We don't have a togo's here but they might in Saginaw. I worked the last few evenings so didn't have to cook. For tonight though I'm going with chicken and maybe do a casserole of some sort if I pick up more ingredients. Have a nice Thursday.

I think they are only in California, Arizona, Oregon, and Washington (most of the restaurants being in California).

They do make delicious sandwiches! Last night I chose turkey and ham for the deli meats, but sometimes I'll choose "assorted Italian meats" (which includes mortadella, capicola, salami, and ham) and make myself a good old fashioned Italian sub. The kids aren't big fans of the capicola, but they like the salami and ham. They think of the mortadella as "fancy bologna".

I picked turkey and ham this last time. Next time I might get roast beef instead of turkey, or the "assorted Italian meats" (which includes salami, capicola, mortadella, and ham). They also offer tuna salad as a meat choice.

That is definitely cheaper and you can have fun adding what you want to the sandwich too.

Yes, including some of the mustard that I already had on hand. I like stone ground mustard, and the restaurant doesn't have that one.

That sounds like a really good deal. Enjoy your sandwich. We are having left over spaghetti and meatballs for supper tonight.

The sandwiches were quite good that night. I'm not yet sure what we're doing for tonight's dinner.

That really sounds ( and looks) good, and soup always goes well with sandwiches.

That is a good deal for that price. We had cheeseburgers. Hadn't had one in a while and it was good. Enjoy your evening.
