This was borrowed from Hickory daily record. [volume] (Hickory, N.C.) 1915-current, February 25, 1921, Page PAGE SIX, Image 6 Found on chroniclingamerica.loc.gov I think my favorite is one not pictured here. Further down this column is a notice / reminder (printed in the paper once already -some pages back) of taxes due. No one wants to pay taxes, but surely everyone would see the notice! $1.00 in 1921 is worth $14.61 today. A few ads on this list mention room and board, so $1.00 for a room and meal would be $14.61 today. What a steal!

See? Inflation *has* gone crazy! Did I know you were near Hickory? I used to live in Boone and in Shelby.

I'm actually not too close to Hickory. I live in Winston Salem.

@spiderdust I haven't really looked for the older papers here, but I think we had two since Winston & Salem were two different places at one time.

I don't think I'd trust a place like that today, though. Even if it the room and board were reasonable for today's standards.

I enjoy looking at old newspapers and clips.

It would be a shame when the names are on the notice of the newspaper

Oh, notices for those not paying their taxes? Yes, you are right.
