What crime should have more severe punishment?

United States
February 27, 2021 5:35pm CST
In your opinion, what's a crime in your country that doesn't get punished enough? That is, the time (served) doesn't equal the crime. For me, and I feel like a lot of people are going to say this (but I'm still asking) it's sexual based crimes, especially pedophilia. Not just that, but any crime against animals. Any crime against a minority if i'm being honest. So what about you? What crime and what punishment do you think they should get instead?

I think this is a corruption crime. Really, there are still many people who are hungry and they do corruption just for luxury! How heartless

@Charon29 If citizens made the laws, I think we would be in a lot better conditions.

Any crime where you have killed somebody on purpose or with your car.

True. I think those don't get enough attention to be honest. They aren't always easy to investigate either.

Maybe I am wrong but I have always thought there might be less crime if criminals knew that what they did to someone would be done immediately to them when they were caught, So if someone shot someone and was caught then no trail nothing he just gets shot. However, my thinking might be too much I don't think such things will ever happen.

I understand what you mean though. I do think someone who has shot another should be shot themselves, but not fatally. It should be done in the arm or in the foot or something like that. I also think there are some cases where a person just needs a lot of counseling or a way out of a bad situation. I'm thinking of gangs in this instance. The person should still be punished, but there needs to be more programs to help people out of those situations.

@ScribbledAdNauseum There are those that murder Jews and get away with it and harsher penalties have done. They should never get out of jail ever. They need to hanged from what they did. I also agree with pedophiles and those that harm animals.

I agree with you, but I think they should be more than just hanged. I think they should be tortured in the same way the Jews were during the holocaust. They need to see and feel the same pain that they wished on others.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Thank you for that and I agree they need to be tortured before hanging.

@Hannihar The torture shouldn't be made public, but it should be publicly known. Hopefully this would deter others .

Crimes against children, of course; but abuse of an animal should be punished severely as well.

Both crimes are about harming the innocent. They aren't equal by any means but they aren't insignificant from the other either.

Women groping, outdoor. If they can't travel fearlessly, then our society is seriously broken.

@stapllotik Oh yes, those who do this are very sneaky though. They do it where it is not easy to get caught, it's not right.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yes. Mostly in crowded places and during travelling in train and bus.

I would say treason as committed by the former president. I think he should have been tossed out of politics and jailed for this "Russia, if you are listening...please find Hillary's emails." Why no one else thought this should happen, I have no idea.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Oh yeah, of course..but my point is he should have been prosecuted for that statement alone and then we would have been spared having him in office.

@snowy22315 I agree with you. We could have been saved four years! Then again, I think the Access Hollywood tape should have made him illegible. Ineligible? Yeah that word.

I know SDNY is going after him and I think GA is too, but I think he needs to be punished a lot more. Not just for the most recent riot, but for the whole Russia thing and well.. Just, there's so much he shouldn't be allowed to get away with. Nor should his family for their roles in it.

Definitely agree there. I think more needs to be done for abuse on males too though. They are least likely to ever speak up.

Crimes against minorities can be "ambiguous." I have been victimized (over 40 years) both because I was "white" and "male." I would like to see "justice," but I can understand the prejudices of those who acted against me.

Debating the topic of crimes against minorities is always tough. It feels like one of those things you can't win for losing. Either side with you or they're against. Either way it's a topic with lots of strong feelings. Personally I"m somewhere in the middle with supporting.

animal abuse crimes. I know this is harsh, but I think they should get the same treatment they did to the animal.

I agree with you though. If they chopped off the cat's tail then they need to have two fingers chopped off. If they refused to feed them then they need to go hungry too.

@ScribbledAdNauseum The situation here is very specific and I don't think it has anything to do with the type of crime as much as who the perpetrator is. There are so many types of crimes for which I would instantly change the sentence. I also think that some 'crimes' are being abused here. My country is no different from others, there is everything here from corruption, pedophilia, to murder..

Long term criminals are called masterminds for a reason. They know how to get away with things or twist things to make them look less than they really are. We also can't forget people greasing the palms of the right people (giving money to get away with things). This makes me think of my great grandfather. He paid off the judge so that he could get away with running a moonshine operation.

I think there are people in all countries who commit corruption, and it happens in my country I hope to get heavier punishment because it is very detrimental. unfortunately the people who do corruption are mostly people who work in the state government.

The corruption and autocracy of the power,it will ruin a nation and the future of its people. They should be executed and purged for what they did. There isn't a crime that more serious than the corruption and autocracy of the power. When the Stalin and Hitler took the corruptive and autocratic power, they totally turned their nations into the real Hells.People lived as the slave and zombie until their evil regimes collapsed

I agree with you there. Those in power needs to be held accountable and should not get away with things or get a slap on the wrist (something minor) just because they are a well known person. None of us want our countries to become hells.

I'd be OK with firing squads for those who killed someone during a robbery. Also for those who engaged in violent stanger rape.
