The Andre Rieu DVD that we watched today was called 'Under the Stars - Live in Maastricht V'. It had the Harlem Gospel Choir on and a gospel choir from South Africa which were really good together. They sang Amen, I Will Follow Him and Oh Happy Day and then Oh When the Saints near the end. My Mum really liked them. Mirusia flew in from the roof of the stage singing as Mary Poppins! Then she disappeared beneath the stage in a puff of smoke and came up wearing a completely different dress to sing Don't Cry For Me Argentina from Evita. Andre told us how one day in winter when the snow was so high, he was walking in the street in Maastricht and heard beautiful music. It was coming from three Russian musicians whom Andre approached to ask them to perform with him but they legged it! (Andre said maybe they thought he was from the KGB!) But he heard them again on another occasion and this time they recognised him and knew he wasn't from the KGB, so Andre was able to ask them to perform with him. Then he introduced them and they came on stage. One had something that looked like a kind of oval banjo, one had a piano accordion and the other had what looked like a giant triangular guitar! I couldn't tell you what Andre said they were called! Anyway, they played Laura's Theme and it was very beautiful. Sir Anthony Hopkins was in the audience to listen to Andre play a waltz he had written years ago and he saw Andre on telly in America and said That's the guy whose going to play my waltz. He phoned Andre Rieu up to say he'd written a waltz and would Andre Rieu play it? When they told him Anthony Hopkins was on the phone and he's written a waltz that he wanted Andre to play, ofcause he said yes. And he played it. It's called And The Waltz Goes On and it is very beautiful! It was a wonderful DVD. Tomorrow (actually today because it's after 2 in the morning) another episode of the Andre Rieu documentary will be on and this one is called My Musical Year. I'm really looking forward to it. Have a nice night, everyone.
