Day 203 Promise 668 Hebrews 5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; 9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them who obey him; People think about suffering as pain and misery, not something they learn from. Yet, you learn not to do the same thing again. Jesus learned obedience by what He suffered. It seems hard to understand because He was perfect, without sin. Yet the author showed that through His suffering we gained eternal salvation. As Christians, you know Jesus’ suffered at the hands of the Jews and Romans during His trial and crucifixion. Yet, that’s not where His suffering began. Matthew 26:36 Then came Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and said unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder. 37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. 38 Then said he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. 39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt. 40 And he came unto the disciples, and found them asleep, and said unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? 41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. 42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. Jesus asked His Father to take the cup from Him because He knew the heaviness of sin. Yet, He obeyed His Father and became obedient to death. Philippians 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. (KJV) Because of Jesus’ obedience to death, you have eternal life if you accept Him as Savior and Lord. Let’s pray: Father, suffering is part of life. Without Your Son’s suffering, I could not have eternal life. Help me to be obedient to You as I walk through this life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. I think most Christians want to avoid suffering but I find my faith grows in times of suffering. I go to God more then then when things are going well. Good lesson.
