Batch Funds

My High School mates and I loved to meet and eat every time a classmate comes home from another country. No rule. If anyone is free at a particular day and time, just pop at the specified restaurant or cafe. Each mini reunion has become a gathering of friends. Every one pitch in on the food chit - PhP 500 in the beginning, and just before the pandemic, a flat PhP 1k each. The change goes to our Batch Fund - for our Christmas parties, our travels, or whatever. The plans, of course, did not materialize because of the pandemia. Instead, our funds were forwarded to people in dire need such as our Geometry teacher who is undergoing eye surgery tomorrow and a ranger who taught us combatives and just came out of the hospital for kidney ailment. Glad our funds went to better causes.

Wow. You guys are solid! Your teacher must be proud of you all. I've stopped attending batch reunions years ago because it felt like everyone's gloating about their successful careers, travels and costly purchases. While I'm thankful to have been sent to a private school for girls, I feel that there are some things or people from there that are not worth keeping.

All you said is true. I also have reservations over gloating batchmates but that is just the way they are - shallow. Did allow them to wallow in their useless chatter but never agreed on subjects that would compromise creed and principles. One reason they hate me. Ha ha In time, they realized I am worth keeping. Sigh. Good thing we have responsible and deep classmates also who would put things in perspective. Thus the advocacy. I do miss the others who never ever wanted to join the reunions. It would be nice to see them again. For old times' sake, as a quip goes. If ever you join your school mates again, be there for the good ones and let the crooked ones know you are a classmate to reckon with.

@eileenleyva I just might attend those mini reunions if circumstances permit. Thinking about it now, maybe a Zoom reunion might be nice. I hold no grudges to anyone in my batch. It's probably just me.

@almostoveryou Went out of my way to invite a classmate who I know felt like an outcast then. She was shocked, she said, that despite the innuendoes she felt in high school, she actually was surprised to rediscover our mates pleasing and a lot of fun. I think we were just sensitive in our juvenile years. Have fun with your classmates. Am sure they would make your world go crazy again.

@eileenleyva Yes, I am. We always bonded together when I was there in Pinas. Now, on fb and messages.

It always feels good to help someone else. It's good you've been able to do that.

Hospitalization costs are quite expensive, Easily depletes the savings of the retirees. Surgeries and dialysis would reduce the budget of ordinary families to bare needs. There was no prodding between my classmates and I, we actually had to dole out more for few other cases.

It had become our batch advocacy - to be of assistance to the people who guided us in our youth.
