100 years ago today: Money Talks

United States
March 6, 2021 8:08pm CST
This was borrowed from The Corpus Christi caller. [volume] (Corpus Christi, Tex.) 1918-1987, March 06, 1921, Page PAGE THREE, Image 3 Found on chroniclingamerica.loc.gov Really the only reason I'm posting this one is... A) Doesn't this character look familiar somehow? I dunno, he just look an awful lot like another drawn character I've seen before. B) Talkes, did you see? It says Talkes. This isn't the first time I've seen this spelling.

You know what popped into my head when I saw the name? Those little toy pez dispensers. I really don't know why.

@LindaOHio That doesn't surprise me. Did you know that the dollar tree has TY toys now? Yep, that's hard for me to wrap my head around since beanie babies are collectors items (or the older ones are).

Talkes? Like do becomes does? Go becomes goes? But I never see talkes. If Malay, we have old spelling that we no longer use nowadays. Is this old English spelling?

I actually think Talkes is a surname as well. I think that Talkes might have once been the spelling for talks, but I may be wrong. I wondered if there was something about the text that I didn't understand.

Right, it's been many many years since we lived in a bartering system.
