Today was filled with old favorites. That included a drive to Cades Cove, one of the highlights of any trip to the Great Smoky Mountains. I love Cades Cove. My dear mother of blessed memory loved it, too. We had more than one go-round stuck in a traffic jam, watching a bear out in a field in our many trips to the Smokies. Today was bear-free, but there were plenty of deer out grazing in the fields. I saw a few wild turkeys, too (not the whiskey ). It may sound dull to a lot of people, but that 11-mile, one-way loop through Cades Cove is just magical to me. One of the highlights was when I saw a little girl in the car ahead of me, leaning out the window, agog at the sight of a deer not too far from the road in the woods. All around the hints of spring green engaging in a battle with the brown of winter flourished. If I were to come back in two weeks the place would be much greener. But then, that’s one of the reasons I love coming to the Smokies so much. It’s never the same place twice.

Doesn't sound like it, and it does sound pretty no matter how it looks when you visit. Glad to hear that winter hasn't destroyed it.

There are LOTS of trees down everywhere, especially on the bypass above Gatlinburg. It’s as if those trees that were burned in the 2016 fire finally gave up under the weight of the snow and ice they had here last month.

@FourWalls I don't doubt it. Trees can withstand a lot, but eventually something gets them. George mowed the other day, and it was brown and mushy where he mowed. Probably because that area of the yard doesn't get a lot of sun. It'll grow nice again though.
