We Owe God an Infinite Measure

"How often are you going to forgive others? Seven times?," asked Peter. Jesus replied, not "seven times, but seventy seven times." What He really meant was "countless or endless times". Many bible scholars hold the view that the original Greek words "murion talanton", ten thousand talents, literally stand for a huge amount. In modern terms, they are likened to a national debt of a country falling upon a single citizen. If the Lord pardoned my debts of such gargantuan proportions, He expects me to forgive the lesser sins of others, committed personally against me. The parable tells us that we owe God an infinite measure. Is there a justification for hating and not forgiving your enemies?

Here is David's viewpoint. Psalm 139:19 Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men. 20 For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain. 21 Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee? 22 I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies. (KJV) Jesus also said we are to love our enemies. Matthew 5:43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. 44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? 47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? 48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. (KJV)

I am glad Jesus came and improved the Mosaic Law, as observed by David.
