Gallbaldder Attack!!

Canada

A really good friend of mine just got diagnosed with multiple gallstones after she suffered her first gallbladder attack. She didn't know what was happening to her at first. The crushing belly cramps lasted four days! She lost 6lb, as she was unable to eat, or drink. Surgery is an option, but with our province in partial lock-down, and zero visitors to hospital she wants to put the surgery off for as long as possible. This past weekend she suffered her second attack, it was so hard to see her in so much pain, she lost another 5lb. The attack she said were like the harshest labor pain, happening every 3-4 mins and lasting for about 10 to 15 seconds, constant for four days straight! Today she is feeling better, she is scared to eat! Scared that whatever she puts in her mouth will end up with her buckling over in pain every five minutes with no relief. Doctor suggest 100% plant-based diet, zero fat intake. She is (was) a big meat eater, but I know it's crucial for her diet to change if she wants to prolong the surgery. Anyone have any tips, suggestions that I may give her to help when or if another attack hits her again?

As someone that no longer has a gallbladder I’ve had those attacked beforE. Eat none grease food, less butter, nothing heavy once the gallbladder is removed it’ll take some time before she can eat grease food again. Things with heavy cheese can also set off an attack. Body has to learn news to filter food since the gallbladder is part of the filter system.

She's eating only fruits and vegetables at the moment, and drinking lots of water. Hopefully this helps until surgery inevitably happens. thanks for replying.

@RachelleDD that won’t help surgery is the only actually fix. The food she is eating won’t clause an attack.

Sounds like the advice her doctor gave is spot on. Good luck to her.

the pain was harsh, she buckled over holding her belly holding her breath. Felt so helpless. She'll have to eat right for sure. Thanks for replying Carol :)

I think it is best if she sees a doctor.

I had terrible gallstones years ago and finally had my gallbladder removed by laparoscopy which is not hard at all

Sadly the surgery for her will be the traditional way as she has had multiple surgeries in the past. Apparently it will also be complicated as well because she had major hernia surgery a few years ago and they used a "natural" mesh to repair it. She's feeling better today, but still scared and watching what she eats. Thanks for replying.

The surgery used to be a major, bad operation, but now it's usually out patient with just a couple of tiny incisions. If I were her, I'd definitely get the surgery and avoid all those terrible attacks.

That sounds really hellish. Can I ask exactly what causes a call bladder attack? I don't think I have ever met anyone who has suffered with this
