Day 213 Promise 678 Hebrews 12:7 If ye endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chastens not? 8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye illegitimate, and not sons. 9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? 10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. 11 Now no chastening for the present seems to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. Nobody likes discipline. Yet, everyone knows they need boundaries. People receive discipline from parents, teachers, and employers. If they don’t follow the rules, they pay the consequences. The writer to the Hebrews told them that as they received discipline from their parents, so too, God would discipline them because He loved them. God treated them as cherished sons and not illegitimate. As Christians, when you accepted Jesus as your Savior and Lord, God treated you as His cherished child. Since you are His child, He lets you know when you fail to obey Him. When Satan tempts you, God will let you know you disobeyed Him and will discipline you because He loves you. Take time to examine yourself and confess your sin and God will forgive you. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (KJV) God’s promise is eternal life. Live in full obedience to God and you won’t feel His discipline. But know, when He disciplines you, it’s because He loves you and wants to spend time with you. Let’s pray: Father, help me be obedient to you and not fall into Satan’s traps of disobedience. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 12 March 2021 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay

Very wise words. We'd be fools to think that God would not punish us for our wrongdoings. He loves us, and wants to correct our behavior so we learn to walk in his ways, not in the ways of evil.

@just4him Thank you. It's hard to tell really, but I think I'm doing a little better. The muscle aches are gone, but I still have fevers and chills, so I guess I still have a ways to go.

Yes many don't like to think God will disciple His children but He does because He loves us.
