You've got to love the legal system. So we had another hearing, determined the courts are just not ready to hold trials yet, and set another date to set dates. Also, we had to sit there all morning because my son's attorney had to be in two other courtrooms so we ended up being the last case heard. Afterwards, we had a brief conversation with him, and he told us that the PI had finally tracked down our last witness and had a conversation, that he didn't think we could use her, but that he hadn't seen the report yet. So a couple of days later I called the PI directly and asked him about it. Well, he hadn't exactly had a conversation, what he did was set up a pretext call between her and another witness who is going to testify for us. Not being law enforcement, he couldn't record it, but he did hear the girl tell our witness that the charges were absolutely bogus, but that she didn't want to have anything to do with it. Probably why she's hiding out in Arizona. Problem is, she told the sheriff something different, so if she were to come out and testify something different, she could get possibly arrested for perjury or flip on us because she's good friends with the girl who's accusing my son. So we won't call her, and as of December the DA wasn't intending to call her either. But if he does call her, we have what she said on the pretext call in our back pocket, so to speak, and can use what she said to impeach her testimony. Which leaves us a little better than we were, I guess. But trial is still a ways off, and the boy's life is still on hold because of this mess. The courts haven't had a jury trial since some time last year, and they are technically out of compliance on the cases where the defendants haven't waived time, so they have to take those cases first. So no clue when this is all going to wind up. Maybe someone will grow a conscience in the meantime, but I don't count on that.

Sounds like the case is a long haul ! It is obvious that the courts drag their feet on this case.

What a mess. It's got to be terrible to have your life on hold like that.

Oh gosh. I was wondering how that was going. Ugh, but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.
