I took care of my Mom who had dementia for nearly ten years. It was rough on me to say the least. I keep having these thoughts of death and it burns inside with dread and fear. Taking care of my Mom really brought it home. She passed away about a year or so ago. By then she was long gone. I mourned her death before she died. If you've ever had a loved one with dementia you'll know what I mean by that.
Anyway, I just realize I'm thinking too much when I go through this death thought thing. Usually does the trick.

I feel what you feel because I also took care of my mother though she did not suffer from dementia. She was confined to her bed during the last few remaining months of her existence.

I understand you. Although my parents did not suffer dementia, it was also a long and rough time taking care of them on their sick bed.

My mother has severe dementia, or Alzheimers disease.
She checked herself into a rest home a couple of years ago as she knew that she was forgetting and a danger as she lived alone and still drove a car.
I've grieved the loss of her many years ago, and feel that even though her heart is still beating, the 'real' her is already gone and its just a disease living on in her body. It is a very cruel illness.
