Fate of a 3rd World Country

I have just finished hearing confessions of about 50 parishioners. I asked a lay leader to give inputs in the Parish's Lenten Recollection, while i sat at the confessionals for almost three hours, sweaty, tired and exhausted.
With the 3rd variant of covid 19 pandemic still raging, I needed to be careful not to get the ire of the authorities. I instructed everyone to wear face masks and face shields, if need be.
I read somewhere that during the Black Death pandemic in the 6th century in Italy, the pope defied the pandemic protocols and processioned the Blessed Sacrament in the town center of Rome. That was "the" superspreader. Many died, including the pontiff himself.
I am glad my parish is situated about 800 kilometers south of Manila. Covid in this place has not been widespread. But we are not lowering our guards.
I heard our country is the last priority of the manifacturers of the vaccines. We have just started innoculating our doctors, nurses and frontliners, while most countries abroad have been in their 3rd round of vaccinations. This is the fate of being in the 3rd World country.

My country has donated amounts of vaccines to poorer countries of South America. I wish that other, richer countries could help you out if your government cannot buy the vaccine.

While the Local Chief Executive in our province along with other authorities are doing their best to strictly implement the health protocols and other rules regarding entry in our place, still there are many people who are violating the rules. I've learned that there are still people who came from other places who were able to enter the place without complying with the requirements such as the negative swab test result. If this will continue, there is a high possibility of the increase in cases in the coming days.

I firmly believe that given how advanced worldwide education and medicine have become, it is useless to compare this virus and the reaction to it to the 1918 flu pandemic or the pandemics of the bubonic plague, cholera, typhus, smallpox, the measles, tuberculosis, leprosy, malaria, add yellow fever. It's time that politicians, monarchs, and members of the media stop with all the fearmongering so we all get on with our lives.
