Day 251 Promise 719 1 John 2:28 And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. 29 If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that everyone who does righteousness is born of him. Little children have the confidence adults put aside as they mature. One is the confidence that their parents are invincible. Playground taunts show children defending their parents and showing them up as better than anyone else on earth. John called believers little children because they were new in their faith. They hadn’t matured in the knowledge of God. They only knew Jesus as their Savior and above every god they believed in before their conversion. Jesus proved Himself to them. They weren’t ashamed to call Him their Savior. They also expected His return and looked for it every day as they put into practice what they learned. As Christians, you know the only way you can come to faith is as a little child. Jesus told the disciples to allow the little children to come to them because the kingdom of God belonged to them. Mark 10:13 And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those who brought them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. 15 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. 16 And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them. Jesus did not say you needed to receive Him as Savior and Lord when you were little children, but you needed the faith of a child, innocent of the evils of the world. Children accept what they see easier than adults whose minds and hearts become corrupted with time. Children aren’t ashamed to stand up for what they believe. As Christians, you need the same faith, unashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Paul showed faith gave you power. Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. When you do God’s work without question, without shame, with faith, you put into practice the faith of a child. Do you have the faith of a little child? Or has the world corrupted your thinking and caused you to question your faith? Let’s pray: Father, give me the faith of a little child. Help me see You with the pure faith of a child, unashamed and ready to do Your will. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 19 April 2021 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay

Over the course of my life, the world has corrupted my thinking in many ways, but the Lord has always tugged on my heart to come back to Him. And of course, having the mind and faith of a child helps put things in perspective, and gets us back to the simple faith we need to experience God's kingdom.
