My tryst with COVID 19

April 23, 2021 8:39am CST
It all started in Mid-September last year when we all already knew what COVID 19 is. This was the time when India was going through first wave Peak situation. Though I was aware and afraid of the dire situation surrounding me, deep inside I was somewhat confident that the virus can not reach to me or my family since we were kind of "maintaining healthy diet" people. Restaurant food or fast food/ junk food were not our thing. Around September 15, 2020, I had mild fever. I thought it was a viral fever and will go after 3 or 4 days and didn't worry much. On Day 5, Body temperature was 105 degree Farenhite. Still I couldnot believe COVID might be the reason and continued with normal fever medicines. That day( ie Day 5) , around 9 or 10 PM at night, I started to feel shortness of breath. This was the time real panic started. Then immediately I hired a cab and went to a hospital near by. To my surprise they denied to admit stating that they're in short of Isolation bed. They can only admit on the submission of Negative COVID report, which I did not have that time. Since this was the peak time in India all most all hospitals were out of bed. Now I was at the mercy of GOD. Finally after having been rejected by 4 or 5 hospitals , at 3 AM, I got admitted in a hospital after several requests. Seeing my condition, prima facie they suggested to go for COVID test( Antigen one,of which result comes within 2 hr). And As expected I was COVID positive. This was the worst night ever for me. Then after 2 days of treatment, I came to my house for self isolation. I lost my taste and smell senses for 20 odd days and became week and tired. I suffered a lot with several sleepless nights. Finally I recovered from this nightmare disease with GOD's Grace. Suggestions for you all from my experience: 1. Don't underestimate COVID. The moment you see any of its symptoms, go for COVID test. 2. Always wear mask and sanitise your hand frequently. 3. Take high protein nutrients in your diet. 4. Take steam everyday 5. Stay home, Stay safe.

Thank God that you recovered well. Yes, our country is going through a even scarier second wave. I just tested positive on 8 April. Despite of all precautions, got it at work when two colleagues tested positive. Fortunately had only headache and body pain for two days but I got isolated and tested. My husband came out negative and so did my younger daughter. But I passed the virus to my elder daughter. Thank God we recovered in home isolation. But still feeling weak.

Sorry to hear about your contracting the virus. Your absence was felt here although I was also not that active here. Hope you are feeling better now and take care. It has some effect long after you feel you are fully cured.

First of all welcome to mylot family. Hope you will enjoy it here. Nice to know that the infection was not that serious and you recovered fully from it. I too contracted the disease by end September but it was mild and did not require hospitalisation. I was only home quarantined. Although there were no severe symptoms, there was mild development of pneumonia in left lungs. Necessary medicine had to be taken for that. I felt its effect long after I thought I was fully recovered. Take care.

Good thing you are narrating your story so others will know the severity of contracting CoViD-19.
