Old AGE Top Ten: Age (#3)

Two words come to mind after you’ve had enough birthdays: “old” and “age.” I’m taking those two words and enjoying two countdowns of songs with “old” and “age” in the titles. I’m mixing up with one goes first, too. You can chalk that up to old age. Here’s today’s song with “age” in the title. #3: Age - Jim Croce For those of you who weren’t born when Jim Croce tragically died in a plane crash in 1973, this song may explain why he’s still held in such high regard nearly 47 years after his death. I’ve traded love for pennies Sold my soul for less Yeah. The 70s were loaded with singer/songwriters. That’s my element. And let me explain what that means: while a lot of artists wrote their own songs, the “singer/songwriter” was more into introspection, either in part or in whole. Think of the content difference between the great song “Oh Boy!” by Buddy Holly and Croce’s “Time in a Bottle,” and you’ll get the idea. Croce was silenced so early in his life (he was just 30) that we can only guess how many other classics he would’ve given us. While this song wasn’t a single by Croce, other people did record it, including Jerry Reed. Age just wasn’t meant for Jim Croce. I love many Croce songs but this one I had never heard before,

Wasn't familiar with this Croce tune. So many great artists' lives were cut short with small plane crashes. Sad.
