Day 269 Promise 737 1 John 5:18 We know that whosoever is born of God sins not; but he who is begotten of God keeps himself, and that wicked one touches him not. 19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in wickedness. 20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him who is true, and we are in him who is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. 21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen. What do you know? People lay claim to a vast amount of knowledge. Yet, how much of that knowledge is profitable? John told the believers what they knew. They knew that those who accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord didn’t sin. They knew Satan couldn’t touch them because they belonged to God. They knew the whole world lay in wickedness. And they knew they had eternal life. This was their understanding. As Christians, you have been told the opposite for most of your lives. You were told you are sinners and you cannot escape sin. You were told Satan will do as much harm to you as he can. You’ve also been told to stay away from idols. So, how can you change your mindset from what you’ve been told your whole life? You can start by believing the Word of God. John didn’t tell the believers something impossible to understand. He told them they knew the things he wrote to them about. Why? Because it’s true. When you sin, you have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ. He will go to the Father on your behalf and testify on your behalf that you are His child. He will show the Father you are without sin. How? His blood covers you and hides your sin from the Father’s eyes. Jesus blots out your sin every time you confess your sin. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. (KJV) Yes, we sin. However, your sin does not need to stain your life. Confess it. Get rid of it, and God will cleanse you from every unrighteous act. When He does, it will be as though you never sinned. Jesus is your advocate with the Father. Satan goes before God to lay all your sins before Him. However, with your sins forgiven, the Father cannot see your sin, and Satan cannot touch you. Revelation 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. (KJV) 1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. (KJV) You have nothing to lose with Jesus on your side. He will not allow Satan to have any leverage over you but will tell the Father, you are His, and He took all your sin and got rid of them as far as the east is from the west. Psalm 103:10 He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. 11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them who fear him. 12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. What do you know? Do you know you are a blood-bought child of God? Do you know the Father loves you so much, He can’t see your sin because Jesus covered it? Do you know you have eternal life because you belong to Him? John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Eternal life is God’s promise to you because you accepted Jesus, His Son as your Savior and Lord. John also said one last thing, to stay away from idols. What is an idol? An idol is anything you place in a high position in your life. It could take God’s place. Think about your life. What do you value most? Your job? Is earning money your first priority? Your toys? Do you spend time in any number of hobbies that take you away from God’s presence? Your family? Do you put your family ahead of everything, even God? By themselves, these things aren’t bad. We need to work, take care of our families, spend time in some kind of recreation. However, when they blot out your relationship with God, it is an idol in your life. Matthew 6:19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. (KJV) Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (KJV) When you put God first, everything else in your life falls in place. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for Your love. Thank you for forgiving my sin when I confess my sin to You. Thank you for Your Son, Jesus, who goes before You as my Advocate. I am not worthy of your grace and forgiveness. You knew that and sent Your Son to take my sin and cover it so I can have a right relationship with You. Help me to keep You first in my life, and not place anything ahead of You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 7 May 2021 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay
