Day 272 Promise 740 Jude 1:1 Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them who are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called: 2 Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied. 3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. 4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. 5 I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them who believed not. 6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. 7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. 8 Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. 9 Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. 10 But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves. 11 Woe unto them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Korah. 12 These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withers, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; 13 Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever. 14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his saints, 15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. 16 These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaks great swelling words, having men’s persons in admiration because of advantage. 17 But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; 18 How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. 19 These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit. 20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, 21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. 22 And of some have compassion, making a difference: 23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. 24 Now unto him who is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, 25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen. You think you know something because it’s what you’ve been taught or told since a young age. Yet, what you know isn’t always right. Even when something you’ve been told is wrong, there is always a grain of truth that makes it hard to discern the lie. Jude is the brother of James. Who is Jude and who is James? James was one of the disciples of Jesus, not John’s brother but James the son of Alphaeus. Jude was also a disciple, known as Judas, not the traitor. Therefore, these two were disciples of Jesus. Luke 6:13 And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles; 14 Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew, 15 Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes, 16 And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor. (KJV) Jude wrote to believers to remind them about their salvation, and turn away from those things which destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. He showed them how lies penetrated the hearts and minds of people to turn them from faith in Jesus and make the gospel of none effect in their lives. Jude reminded the believers what God did to those who went their own way after their own lusts and rejected Him. He destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. He destroyed the Egyptians as He led His people out of Egypt to the Promised Land. He even showed them what God did with the rebellious angels who warred with Lucifer against God. As Christians, we need reminding about what will happen if we listen to Satan’s lies, and run after our own ways, turning the truth of God into a lie. We have so many examples of Satan’s lies. Turn on the television, watch the news and so-called harmless programs. Social media is full of compromise. We are part of the ‘Just do it’ generation. Anything goes. Yet there is hope. Jude told the believers to build themselves up on their most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, and keep themselves in the love of God. It isn’t easy, but it can be done. 2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. (KJV) It takes revival in your spirit to seek God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. It takes prayer. It takes commitment to study God’s Word. 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman who needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. When you commit your life to Jesus Christ, to seek Him, spending your time in prayer and Bible study, you will see the lies Satan tells the people, and you can resist him, and show those you know and love the truth. James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (KJV) Don’t be taken in by Satan’s lies. One of the power gifts of the Holy Spirit is discernment. Use it so you won’t fall into Satan’s traps. 1 Corinthians 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another various kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11 But all these works that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. You have all the tools you need to see through Satan’s lies and keep yourself free of the contamination of the world. Let’s pray: Father, help me see through Satan’s lies. Help me use the tools You provided to pray, study, and know the truth from the lie. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 10 May 2021 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay

I talked a little about discernment in my Sunday school lesson yesterday. We need to discern when the devil throws lies at us. Have a blessed day,.
