Too many light bulbs!

Every place I have lived in the past pretty much just used standard light bulbs - originally the classic bayonet-fitting, incandescent type, and more recently the compact fluorescent ones. The only other type were unusual ones such as inside the ’fridge. And they seemed to last for ages. Changing a lightbulb was a rare event! But the house we live in now has far too many different types of lights. And they seem to constantly need replacing! I wish I had kept a record of exactly which bulbs, and how many, we had used since we moved in just over 4 years ago. I have actually started doing that now just out of interest because I just can’t believe how many we use! There are spotlights in the ceilings, and candle bulbs in wall lamps, and regular screw bulbs in uplighters, and small bulbs next to bathroom mirrors, and some sort of strip lights in picture lamps, and a fluorescent tube in the utility room (and garage), and hanging ceiling lamps, and of course a few bedside lamps. We are gradually changing them over to the LED variety now, so I’m hoping that will reduce the number we get through because it really is just ridiculous! I guess the previous owners didn't realise what problems they were storing up when they put in all these different fittings! All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2021.

Hopefully you don't have to deal with quite so many different types as this!

@mildredtabitha You'll have to explain to me what you mean about the bulbs using solar. How do they work? We have solar power too, but it is converted into regular electricity before we use it.

@Fleura yeah those are many. We have three types of bulbs in my rural home and they all use solar. Here in the city, we have two types of bulbs and they use electricity

That's a good choice. We are slowly replacing all of these that we can.

I can completely understand that. While my husband and I haven't gone through near as many (some bulbs have lasted the four years we've lived here), we're moving into the LED space, and getting a lot more use out of the bulbs at half the energy, which makes for one happy me and sad for the eletric company.

Yes the new LED types do seem like the way forward. Although by the time we've changed all the old spotlights to LEDs it might actually make a noticeable difference to the heating!!

These days I always consider the type of bulb things take before I decide I like them.

Yes that's definitely an important consideration! Anything out of the ordinary and I will look for something else.

Lightbulbs can be a puzzle to find at stores too. We have a variety of them in our house too.

Yes that's even more annoying, I have taken to keeping the empty packs and writing on them where to buy that type, as a reference for when I need more.

That's more bulbs than we have in the garden.

It's crazy, honestly I wouldn't have believed it was possible to get through so many!
